Manually adjust the limits for your trees

|

In the Cloud A tree's health is visualized using a traffic-light system. Green indicates that the tree has an adequate water supply and does not need to be watered. Orange indicates the onset of drought stress and suggests that watering is recommended. Red signals a water shortage and requires urgent watering. This way, you can see at a glance how healthy your trees are at any time.

The traffic-light system is based on the interpreted measurement values and the set thresholds. For pulse sensors, the interpreted measurement values are the TreeSense moisture index; for Watermark sensors, they are the soil suction potential; for FDR sensors, they are the volumetric water content; and for dendrometers, they are the Tree Water Deficit. The thresholds indicate the values at which irrigation is recommended or necessary.

Manually Adjust Thresholds

The default thresholds in the cloud are set empirically and are independent of tree species. However, different tree species behave differently and thrive at different TreeSense moisture indices, water contents, or soil water potentials. Therefore, you can manually adjust the thresholds for each tree in the cloud to account for the specific behavior of individual trees or soil types. To do this, click the edit icon next to the tree in the cloud and update the values according to your requirements.

Here's How to Use the Traffic Light Correctly After Installation

After installing the sensor, we recommend monitoring both the traffic light readings and the visual condition of your tree simultaneously for the first 4–6 weeks. The preset thresholds are set conservatively to avoid the risk of a delayed response. For example, if you notice that the traffic light is already showing orange even though your tree isn’t showing any signs of drought yet, adjust the thresholds downward. If the traffic light does react too late, adjust the thresholds upward. After this calibration, you can reliably use the traffic light readings as a guide for watering.
